Open position: Endowed Professorship, Vienna University of Technology

The Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation along with partners in the Austrian industrial sector have created an endowed professorship for Intelligence Manufacturing Systems at the TU's Institute for Production Engineering and Laser Technology. The Professorship is currently planned as a five year engagement starting on October 1st, 2015, and will be extended if the position receives a positive evaluation by the endowment partners. Since this position shall be created to promote networking and exchange between the US and Austrian research areas the call is mainly addressed to US citizens and persons with long-term working experience at a US research institution.

Applicants must have their research focus in at least one of the following areas:

  • IT-integration and machine-to-machine communication
  • flexible and adaptive manufacturing systems
  • manufacturing automation systems, material handling and robotics
  • modeling and optimization of factory layouts (digital factory)

Furthermore applicants must fulfill the following criteria to be considered:

  • Ph.D. degree in a relevant field of engineering sciences
  • several years of scientific activity at a U.S. university in the relevant research topics
  • a scientific record of high-quality research and high-impact publications
  • excellent teaching skills
  • outstanding expertise in the aforementioned fields of research
  • proven experience in the application of theoretical principles to industrial problems as well as cooperation with research institutes and industrial partners
  • in-depth knowledge and experience in the field of experimental testing and implementation of theoretical knowledge in order to strengthen research and technology transfer to practical application
