The ASCINA chapter in the Midwest covers a large area including the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio in the Great Lakes region of the US. In the greater Chicago area there is a substantial number of Austrian Clubs that strive to keep Austrian traditions alive in the Midwest. ASCINA currently has two active groups, one in St. Louis led by Peter Nagele, the ASCINA president, and one in Chicago, led by Thomas Wallner. Due to the large geographical area covered it has proven difficult to arrange chapter-wide meetings. The Chicago chapter, which was successfully founded with support by the Consulate General in June of 2007, organizes regular meetings.
The meetings are intended as an opportunity to meet fellow Austrians and foster the Austrian network abroad.
The meetings of the Chicago chapter are held as part of an Austrian Stammtisch every first Thursday of the month starting at 6:30pm at the Austrian Bakery (2523 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60614).
