Member Bio:

Alex graduated in Physics at the TU Vienna, Austria, in late 2005. He did part of his PhD work at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, where he then also worked as a Postdoc between 2006 and 2007. He joined the UBC MRI Research Centre at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 2007.  He was appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Radiology at the University of British Columbia in 2010. In 2012, he recieved a CIHR New Investigator Award and in 2015 a Canada Research Chair.

His research focuses on the development of novel magnetic resonance imaging techniques and their applications to neurodegenerative diseases and brain injury. In collaboration with various researchers, he combines the information obtained with MRI with complementary tests, such as neuropsychology or biochemical markers.
